From the moment the doors of the Kessels Museum opened in July 2022, Anja Konings has been involved in this as a hostess. She also had an active role in setting up the small museum shop, mainly focused on the presentation of the books. Not so strange because with her experience in her previous work at the well-known Gianotten-Mutsaers bookshop in Tilburg, this was very welcome.
And that’s how her other passion came to the fore. Anja turns old hardback books into truly beautiful works of art. She gets to work using a range of patterns available online (either free or for a fee). The pages have a barcode indicating how they should be folded. With a pencil, scissors and a ruler, you can go a long way. And the more complicated the pattern, the more pages of the book you use or need. It does take some time, but after hours of folding, the result is fantastic. Inspired by the instruments in the Kessels Museum, Anja recently presented the book featuring a violin. “The challenge remains to incorporate the most intricate patterns into books that are sometimes as thick as 400 pages,” says Anja.
