There's music in that!

The Kessels Museum focuses on cultural participation for children in a playful and educational way. Music and the experience surrounding it enable children to develop and participate. Making music gives pleasure and brings children together, it stimulates their creativity. By allowing children to actively participate, children shape and give meaning to a changing environment. Participating in culture also has a positive effect on their mental and physical health.

The KidsMusiclab is located on the top floor of the Kessels Museum. There, children/young people can play and experiment with the sounds and possibilities of various acoustic and digital instruments in a challenging and creative way. Workshops 'Building your own instrument' are also organised.

Workshop 'Building your own instrument'

At the Kessels Museum, children from 4 years old (up to 12 years old) can attend a workshop in which they make a musical instrument together with a skilled supervisor. There is no extra charge for this besides the standard entrance fee. In principle, this workshop is held every Wednesday afternoon from 2 to 3 pm. Maximum number of participants per workshop is 8. You can register by sending an e-mail to kids@kesselsmuseum.nl. During school holidays, days and times may vary, please check our current agenda.

Scavenger hunt

Children can explore the museum with a scavenger hunt during regular opening hours. This is suitable for children from 4 years old.

Children's parties

Want to celebrate a birthday at the KidsMusicLab? We offer the possibility of a children's party on request. This party at the museum lasts 1.5 hours and can be booked on Wednesday afternoons. Start time is 2pm and suitable for up to 8 children.

Together, we do the musical scavenger hunt through the museum and then make our own instrument! Of course, we make lots of music with the children and they can experiment with all the instruments in the KidsMuziekLab.

See the entrance fees here. Please note that the listed price of the party does not include the entrance fee of the attendant(s).
Send your request for a children's party to kids@kesselsmuseum.nl and after our confirmation, we will start working with the children on the agreed date!

Education curriculum primary school

In the future, the museum plans to further expand the top floor with special sections for children, but until then we can already offer an educational programme for primary school pupils from grade 1 to grade 8. More information >

At the KidsMuziekLab, children can discover instruments for themselves.
